When we see dog rescue videos, most of the time, we see how successful they are in helping these stray pups, and eventually, they find homes for them. What people don’t see are the rescue attempts where the shelter staff failed to save the doggos they were after.
Danny Spanks is not afraid to show the world that sometimes, his rescuing methods fail. He is also man enough to admit that sometimes he needs the help of others to rescue stray dogs successfully. It doesn’t matter to Danny if he gets the credit or not. As long as the doggos are saved, that is enough for him.
Back in August, Danny was on an errand to rescue a dog in the outskirts of Bakersfield, California, for “A Safefurr Place Animal Rescue.” This is a non-profit group dedicated to rescuing stray doggos in Bakersfield. While driving, Danny came across a chihuahua who dangerously darted across the street.
As usual, he pulled over and tried to rescue the pooch. He noticed that this pup had an overbite, so Dany was determined to rescue him. But after he retrieved his trap and dog leash, the pooch vanished into thin air. He came back every day after that afternoon but to no avail.
After one month, he saw another dog from the same area, but this was a different doggo. Dany also tried to trap this one, but the pup was too cautious. Then the rescuer noticed the pooch running towards a truck yard. He followed the pup and found Greg Flores petting the dog and the other stray pup with the overbite from one month ago!
It turned out that Greg had been feeding the stray pups for over a month, and he even gave them names, “Mahlo” and “Scrappy.” In Greg’s presence, the stray dogs became more trusting of Dany, and this time, the rescuer successfully saved the two elusive pups. Now, Mahlo and Scrappy have both been adopted by a loving family. All thanks to Greg’s selflessness and Dany’s determination.
