A pregnant mama dog gave birth in an abandoned warehouse in a small village in Karditsa, Greece. The locals fed the family regularly to help. But one day, the mama dog got hit by a car and died.
Without their mama dog, the puppies were on their own. The residents continued to provide them food, but they knew they needed more. There was no way they would survive without the mama dog so they reached out to DAR Animal Rescue for help.
As soon as the rescue group received the call, Ermioni Giannakou, one of its co-founders, got inside her and drove straight to the said site. She was happy to help and she was thankful that the neighbors decided to call. Without them, her rescue team would not have known about the orphaned puppies.
Many homeless dogs in Greece die because of road mishaps. It was fortunate that this mama dog gave birth in a place where people looked after them. So even after their mom’s demise, they had a shot at life.
Once Ermioni was at the warehouse, she started to gain the puppies’ trust. She offered them food and spoke with them in a soft, calm voice. When she saw an opportunity, she grabbed the first puppy and placed it in a travel crate.
The remaining puppies panicked but they liked the food so much. They walked close to the rescuer again and one after the other, Ermioni secured them. She placed all three puppies in the travel crate and drove them to the shelter.
The siblings received medical attention to ensure they were in good health. Later on, they joined the rest of the rescue dogs at the rescue center. They were shy and fearful at first, but soon realized they were finally in a safe place.
DAR Animal Rescue will take care of the puppies until they are old enough and ready for their new homes. Until then, they will spend their days being puppies, playing, eating, and sleeping all day long.
