On New Year’s Eve, the Shih Tzu named Roxy returned home for the first time after eight long years. The surprise reunion delighted her family, who had given up on the hope of ever seeing her again.
The three-year-old Roxy went missing from her family’s garden in the spring of 2013. Magdalena Klubczuk, Roxy’s mom from Connah’s Quay in Wales, learned about the news when she came home after work. The fur mom spent weeks searching for the pup. She even contacted vet clinics but had no luck.
Eventually, Magdalena gave up hope of finding Roxy. Because no one turned her beloved pet over, she presumed that Roxy had either died or had been stolen. However, at 11 pm on New Year’s Eve, someone spotted the now ten-year-old Roxy at Buckley’s streets and brought her to Skylor’s Animal Rescue.
After scanning the dog, Dawn Taylor, who runs the shelter in Dobshill, contacted Magdalena to tell her about the good news. When Magdalena received the phone call, she told Dawn that this was impossible. For years, they thought that Roxy was already dead. Magdalena was so shocked that she could not speak when Dawn explained the situation.
According to Magdalena, Roxy had a collar that contained her contacted details. She also had her chipped, so when no one returned the pup, she thought she was stolen. Magdalena told Dawn that it was impossible for them to have her dog because they were sitting together on the sofa. Then, Magdalena realized that Dawn was talking about Roxy.
Roxy spent the night at Skylor’s Animal Rescue, where Dawn did an initial checkup. Sadly, she learned that Roxy has a mammary tumor. For now, Roxy is staying with Magdalena’s friend and preparing her to have a safe introduction with the family’s six-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier.
Magdalena plans on taking Roxy to the vet on Monday. According to her, Roxy looks well, but she is malnourished. Their reunion was so emotional. Magdalena felt like Roxy immediately recognized her the moment she saw her.
