A lot of dog trainers say that a dog’s character is the result of the environment he lives in. Some dogs are aggressive because they have been abused and neglected. They become scared of humans and they tend to attack if they feel threatened. This is what happened to a pit bull named Diesel.
Muzzle
Craig Fields, along with his team, responded to a call in New York about a particularly aggressive pit bull. Craig is the founder of New York Bully Crew, a non-profit rescue organization that specializes in pit bulls. But they also respond to many calls for assistance with other breeds. In this particular call, a family asked them to take away their pet, Diesel.
According to the woman that they met, the dog tried to attack several male visitors that would come over to their place. Even the dog’s owner, who happened to be the woman’s ex-boyfriend. When Craig pumped her for information, he discovered that the former owner used to kick and beat the dog.
Craig then understood why Diesel was acting that way.
When the rescue team tried to take the scared pooch, they had to put a muzzle on him. Even then, the dog tried to bite and jump on the men. The team of rescuers has seen this several times already, and they know exactly what they were facing.
The transformation
Craig’s formula for rehabilitating Diesel was a combination of love, patience, and time. He knows that there are no broken dogs and all of them can be transformed. He planned to spend a lot of time with the dog every day snd earn his trust. A week after, Craig was able to remove the dog’s muzzle without any fear of an attack.
Diesel’s progress was fast. After another week, he has learned to be comfortable having other dogs around him. And with constant training and companionship, he has learned how to play and do simple tricks after another week.
And barely a month after they took Diesel in, the once aggressive dog was comfortable being around men. He did not fear them anymore and became gentle and loving.
With this amazing transformation, he may find himself in a new home soon, where he will be given love and care instead of abuse.
