Christmas is the most festive and wonderful time of the year; and it certainly is for a dog named Lainey.
Scrolling through Facebook one Christmas eve, Lauren Buckley chanced upon a post from a gentleman asking for help for two abandoned dogs. He found them in a ditch near his home and wanted to help them but didn’t know how to. Dropping their plans to travel over the New Year, Lauren and her friend Brooke Cole knew they had to come to the rescue of the dogs.
The women brought the dogs home and named them Lainey and Frankie. Lainey was not in the best of health – she was sick, covered in mange, and almost blind, reeking from neglect. Wrapped in a blanket, Lainey bled through Lauren’s couch, they were waiting for the vet to open from the holidays.
They were afraid Lainey would not make it through the 36 hours before the vets opened; the gravity of her infection may get the better of her. They wanted Lainey to pull through, and she did, Lainey was a fighter!
She was later diagnosed with demodectic mange causing loss of her fur, infecting her skin covering her entire body in wounds. With regular visits to the vet, medicated baths, and prescribed antibiotics, Lainey became healthier and started growing her brown fur back.
Within four months, Lainey became a puppy again: mischievous, funny, and happy to be alive. Cleared from infections, Lauren’s foster dog is ready for her forever home.
Kelly has been following Lainey’s progress through Lauren’s social media accounts. She has seen how the once stinky, alien-looking dog thrived in Lauren’s care. Asking for more pictures and details, she and her husband Larry was convinced they have found the perfect companion.
Now named Luna, the once-neglected pup is living a spoiled dog life in Georgia, sharing a home with her parents and three cat siblings, an unlikely litter.
